Looking for more info on Renting DVC Points From Disney Vacation Club Members? By now, you have probably heard of the Disney Vacation Club, Disney’s version of a timeshare done Disney style. If you aren’t in a position to buy into the DVC, you can still rent point from other members and enjoy the benefit of staying in a larger room for a reduced rate.
When we went in January 2013, one of my amazing reader who is a DVC owner used their points to reserve our room for us for FREE. Disney never treated me like I was a sub-par guest or try to pressure me into joining the DVC. In fact, we were treated just as they would a guest paying full price. They still gave me amazing service and attention. That’s Disney for you!
Points usually rent for $7 to $13 each depending on the owner. Here are a few websites where you can find DVC owners looking to rent their points:
If you rent points from an individual, here are a few things to remember:
- Get references from past renters
- Verify with the Florida Comptroller’s Office that this person is a DVC owner
- Most DVC websites have blank contracts that you can use as a guideline
- Ensure that you fully understand the owner’s cancellation policy
- Be wary of owners who advertise points on a website where they have only a few posts or post only occasionally. While it’s not 100% guaranteed, posters with high post counts usually have a reputation they want to protect. You can check out their prior posts and get a feel for who you’re dealing with by clicking the information under their user name
- Consider buying trip insurance
- Do not rent from an owner on Craigslist or Ebay. While there are undoubtedly legitimate deals, the potential for being scammed is too high.
- Use credit cards, PayPal, or bank check. Don’t use Western Union to pay for your rental.
If you have rented points in the past, I’d love to hear about your experience and any tips or tricks you have to offer!

The only restriction is that you cannot rent commercially. Disney has given an individual member making 20 rentals during a year as an example of commercial renting.
The rental brokerage companies such as DVC Rental Store act as an intermediary or go between the member and the renter so they are not renting their own points. Because of this what they do is totally okay.

i bought into dvc a couple weeks ago. We were told we could not advertise as a business to rent out points that would be renting for a profit. However we were told it was a common practice to rent as an individual to cover payments or yearly fees, that is not making a profit

Can anyone speak to what Jennifer (above) said, about it not being allowed to rent points? It sounds like a great deal but I don’t want to do something that might turn out to be void if it turns out someone other than me is breaking their contract.

we are DVC, LOVE it! however, it is not okay to “rent” out your points. we have given points away, meaning that we let family and friends use the points for free, when we unable to make a trip (b/c the points expire). when we purchased our points we had to sign something to the effect of not profiting from it. I don’t know how well they pay attention or how they can prove that someone is just not generous. anyway anyone that plans to go about every year or two should look into DVC. yes it is a big chunk of money but we think it’s worth it.

We have rented DVC points numerous times and love it. We hope to eventually become members but it is not in the cards for us right now. We have always used The DVC Rental Store (www.dvcrentalstore.com). Paul, the owner is great to work with and is a super nice guy. The first time we rented he took so much time with us that I thought that he would lose his mind but he has always been pleasant and attentive.

I have looked into this once before and will look into it again. Planning for Disney next Summer or early FALL!

I am doing this for the first time. I go to Disney every year. We leave on the 19 of July. We are staying at the Animal Kingdom lodge. I have been reading on how things are different for DVC members at the resort. It has been such a smooth process with the owner contacting me every week to make sure I have everything I need before we leave. So far with the room, dinning, and 4 day hooper it is around 1300. If I was to book the same room through disney over 2500. I heard the point system is the best way to “do” disney, I let you know about my trip after July 23

I’ve looked into this when planning our last two vacations…is the main benefit just getting the DVC resorts? (because when I calculated out several options they didn’t come up much cheaper- if at all- than our moderate resort) It is still intriguing to me…but it seems like a big hassle?? Maybe not??

Mainly the space and the full kitchen.

Jaqui I agree…it’s great knowing we have 50 years of Disney! I guess some people might not be able to travel as often or can’t afford the other expenses that go along with Disney vacations.I’ve had a few points left over that went to waste earlier this year …and I couldn’t coordinate with Kristen fast enough for her Jan trip :o( But I’ll do everthing in my power to use all of them without loosing anymore! They say that DVC is the best kept secret…. but Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is the best kept secret in my book….love that place! If you have the chance to rent points safely I’d suggest it…you will love it…we certainly do!

I’m a DVC member, Animal Kingdom is my home resort, and I love it; it’s one of my favorite places in the world – actually in The World as well! :) We’ll go to other resorts once in awhile as well, if there’s a good deal to had, since we live in Florida, about 40 or so minutes away from WDW; my other faves are Pop Century (the first place I ever stayed on property!) and Port Orleans Riverside. We just went to Fort Wilderness for the first time last weekend, and I’m sure we’ll be going again. :)
Btw, I’m LOVING this site, thank you!

We are going back to Disney in January and are renting points from a DVC member. I found this person on the mousesavers.com forums for renting points and everything has been smooth so far. He provided references, I received confirmation emails from Disney and everything was paid with paypal. We are staying at Animal Kingdom Villas for a week for about 800.00. Something we never would have been able to afford otherwise.

I’ve rented DVC points, and had a great expereince. We stayed at Old Key West, in a 2 bedroom. It was perfect for the 8 of us, that went. The rental process was extrememly easy! We found our Owner, through the Disboards.com. Verified his references, checked with the Comptroller’s office and had a reservation, the next day. It was a seamless transaction and we wouldn’t hesitate, to do it again.

We rented from http://www.dvc-rental.com/ and stayed at AKV in Kidani and loved it! We would have never spent the money to stay there as a cash reservation but being able to rent the points made it much, much more affordable! Scott at DVC-Rental was a pleasure to work with!
Jim says
We have spoken with Scott and a couple of occasions and he was great. We have always used The DVC Rental Store (www.dvcrentalstore.com). Paul, the owner has always done a wonderful job for us and save us a ton of money. You can’t go wrong with either.

A great contact that I have seen alot of people work thru is dvc-rental webpage on facebook (www.dvc-rental.com) Scott, the owner, helps dvc members rent out their points and he sometimes posts some really good “cheap” deals for points!
Trish says
We have a trip booked thru Scott this coming Dec and everything has been smooth sailing. Very prompt and willing to answer any questions I have!! Can’t wait to take the kids on their first trip!

We always use our point. I just don’t understand not using or banking them into the next year. Banking is what I love about DVC. I love that I never have to pay to stay at Disney for the next 50 yrs.
Karen H says
so you rent the points and that is what you would pay instead of the room rate? I’ve very curious about this, but would proceed with caution.
Glenn says
I rent points all the time i am deeded at all of the DVC properties at Disney World,
I have over 4100 points that i rent
